Movies Benefit Brain Health

Your night out to the movies has finally arrived! You get some popcorn, find your seat, and prepare to escape reality for the next couple of hours. But did know you that there is a lot more to a night out at the theater than just entertainment? Going to the movies affects your brain health in ways you probably have never thought of! Attending a movie benefits brain health because it involves:

● Socialization ● Laughter ● Emotions

The Power of Friendship. When you go to the movies with a friend and then discuss the film, you will be giving your cognitive health a boost! Research has found that social events, like going to the movies, helps you to keep mentally sharp and engaged in life. In fact, a Harvard School of Health study found that people who stay actively engaged and have a positive outlook on life tend to be healthier than those who have a “glass half empty” outlook. A negative attitude may put you more at risk of greater health issues than others who think positively.

Laughter. Next time you go to the movies, try to see a comedy film. There are countless benefits of laughter! You’ve probably heard the old saying, “Laughter is the best medicine.” Laughing is a good remedy for many things in life – we all need humor to combat our daily stresses. People who tend to laugh on a regular basis tend to have lower blood pressure than those who laugh occasionally. Next time you leave the movies after seeing a comedy, know that you not only did your abdominal muscles a favor, but also your brain!

Emotions. People can go to the movies if they want a good laugh, a good cry, or a good scare! As mentioned before, a good laugh is good for your brain health, but did you know that seeing a sad movie is also beneficial? When you view a sad film, you are more likely to leave thinking about your friends and family and grateful for what you have.

The next time you have a night out at the movie theater, keep in mind that you are doing much more for yourself than just being entertained. You will be working your brain in ways you never knew were possible simply from a fun night out to the movies
